Today’s the day! Businesses and organizations across central Indiana have been collecting toys to stock the shelves of The Salvation Army Toy Shop, but it takes two teams of very special “elves” to pick up all those toys.
As part of the WISH Tree Toy Drive, the third annual Tweet For Toys will send out two teams from WISH-TV armed with cameras and box trucks from our friends at Two Men and a Truck. They’ll be chasing down tweets with the hashtag #TweetForToys and picking up as many toys as they can in a single day. The “guys” – Scott Sander and Randy Ollis – will be taking on the “gals” – Lauren Lowrey and Drew Blair – in a little friendly competition for a great cause.
The cameras will be rolling the entire time, so set your computer to www.wishtv.com and enjoy side-by-side viewing of the two teams as they travel from location to location looking for toys.
Have you been collecting for Toy Shop and want to get a visit from the WISH-TV Daybreak crew? Just tweet to @WISH_TV and let them know where they need to go. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #TweetForToys and tag @SAIndiana (The Salvation Army Indiana Division) in your tweets.
Last year the WISH-TV teams collected over 2,000 toys in a single day. It takes an estimated 9,000 toys to stock the shelves at Toy Shop, so Scott, Randy, Lauren and Drew are aiming to collect even more toys this year.
Now let’s get those trucks moving and start making Christmas wishes come true!
UPDATE: The toys are counted and our two hard-working teams collected 1,827 toys today! Thank you to every business and organization that took part in Tweet For Toys this year. Without your donations, The Salvation Army Toy Shop wouldn’t be able to serve over 800 families this Christmas season. THANK YOU!
(Oh, and by the way, the gals collected more toys than the guys, but were very kind. If you want to see photos from today’s adventure, click here to view our Flickr gallery.)
