We’ve got one week of the new year under our belts (not to mention all the holiday gluttony we consumed!). Oh, but those days are behind us and we’re relishing a slower pace here at The Salvation Army in January. Or are we?

Yes, the months of careful planning led to several humdinger back-to-back events during the Christmas season. Actually, it seemed like one continuous month of activities – Gifts of Warmth, Radiothon,WISH Tree Toy Collections, Toy Shop, Santa’s Bike Deliveries, and a few others.

Just because the Christmas season is past, doesn’t mean that our work is done. In fact, it has only just begun – for this year. We’ve had a fruitful Red Kettle Season and have only 3 weeks left to reach our Tree of Lights goal. But beyond those times of fervent collections, is the work that is made possible by those donations. And we couldn’t serve the people of Indy without your generosity.

It’s your generosity that made it possible this week for a woman to take a big step forward in her journey of healing. She came to our shelter with only her suitcase and had a long history of abuse and mental anguish. So after three long years of counseling and care provide by the Social Service Center, she can now enjoy living in the group home with a sense of being able to take care of herself. She is also part of our continued support program, so she will be able to still speak with her case manager and have regular meetings at any time.  Hers is a life changed for the better because of donations from people like you who care.

The hard truth is that there will be others. Many young women, children, whole families will come to us with needs that we can only meet with your help. That’s where our Tree of Lights goal comes into the picture. It’s not just about numbers or dollars – it’s about people, with real needs. We’re still quite short of that goal – at 76% of the $3,200,000 needed to continue our programs and services in Central Indiana throughout 2012.

We’re asking, on their behalf, for you to donate now. You can do that online here or by mailing a check to:
