The Salvation Army is on the scene of a devastating explosion that happened in a south side neighborhood last night.

According to news reports from WISH TV, two people were killed and more than a dozen homes damaged or destroyed after a large explosion rocked the 8400 block of Fieldfare Way, a subdivision just off Sherman Avenue and Stop 11 Road.

The canteen and volunteers arrived on the scene last night to provide hydration and snacks to first reposnders and survivors. The canteen returned at lunchtime to offer meals to firefighters, police and other first responders still working the area.

Residents were evacuated from the neighborhood and some are expected to be allowed to return later today to retrieve some personal belongings. The canteen will also be present around dinner time to serve a meal to those residents returning and any other responders on the scene.
