Though Hurricane Ike has yet to make landfall on the Texas coast, The Salvation Army already has been hard at work at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, preparing hot meals for first responders and bus drivers who are readying for evacuations and recovery efforts.

Salvation Army feeding began at the staging area in San Antonio Tuesday morning. Close to 1,200 meals will be served daily through the breakfast and midnight meal feedings, until the number increases as evacuees pour into the area.

In addition, all available Salvation Army disaster equipment and resources are being deployed to San Antonio until the location of Hurricane Ike’s landfall is known.
