West Coast Tacos

July 18, 2010 by Mike

West Coast TacosIf you haven’t seen any stories about a big black truck that drives around Indy selling Korean BBQ tacos, then you must not read the paper, have a television, listen to the radio, or use the web.  West Coast Tacos is everywhere!  Famous for it’s unique and spicy tacos, the young company uses Facebook and Twitter for it’s promotion and marketing, and it’s paying off.  Thousands of people are checking out Facebook to find the truck and see what’s on the menu.

In fact, it’s Facebook that connected West Coast Tacos with The Salvation Army.  WCT wanted to do something to serve those in need in Indianapolis so they posted a message on their Facebook page looking for opportunities.  We got a hold of them right away, and today they’re serving lunch to our Women’s and Children’s Shelter.

Arnold Park, co-owner/creator of West Coast Tacos, joins us to talk about their business and why they want to give back.

Happy July 4th!

July 4, 2010 by Mike

We were honored to start off the July 4th holiday on an early Sunday morning at WIBC.  It’s going to be a long day of celebrating, but our office is closed tomorrow so we should have some time to recover.

On this, our nations birthday, we wanted to honor the men and women who have served our great country in the armed forces.  Who better to help us out than Advisory Board Member, EDS Responder, volunteer, and retired US Army Colonel – Rush Yelverton.  Rush talks to us today about his service to our country.  From his days at West Point, to his command at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Rush has been a true American hero.

Check out this episode to hear Rush talk about his service to the US Army and The Salvation Army.

Golf4Giving Open, 2010

We know what you’re thinking.  You’re thinking, “it’s June.  National Salvation Army Week is over, and the Tree of Lights season is still 5 months away.  Surely these guys must be taking a little summer break.”  Well, like the old Salvation Army phrase says, “Need Knows No Season.”  And since need isn’t taking a break, neither are we.

That being said, there’s a great opportunity coming up for you or your business to support The Salvation Army’s ministries in Central Indiana.  It’s our annual Golf4Giving Open.  This annual golf tournament is put on by our Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary.  In today’s show Stephanie Rude, of the Women’s Auxiliary talks about the 2010 Golf4Giving Open and how you can be a sponsor or just spend the day golfing.  Either way, you’ll be supporting those in need right here in Central Indiana.

Everything you need to know about the Golf4Giving Open.

48 Reasons to Listen to This Episode

In case you’re wondering who the very excited man to the left is; it’s Drew Johnson.  Drew is the creator of 48by48.com, and is on mission to volunteer for organizations and serve others in the 48 contiguous United States in 48 weeks time.  Wow!

A few weeks ago he volunteered for The Salvation Army right here in Indianapolis.  Drew got to wear one of the famous yellow shirts and volunteer at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway through a partnership The Salvation Army has with the IMS.  He said he wasn’t much of a race fan before, but after being there in person, he is now.

We caught up with Drew by phone while he was volunteering in Virginia (state 33 in his quest).  Drew shares his stories from his travels and the purpose of his mission in this weeks episode.  You can also hear Kristen say, “ha cha cha cha.”

Just the crew in the studio this morning, but there’s no shortage of things to talk about. With a summer-long renovation beginning at the headquarters building at 3100 N. Meridian, the team takes this opportunity to share about how much donor intent, efficiency and service means to The Salvation Army. Where will the team work for the next couple of months? How can The Army afford a renovation in this economy? Find out in today’s show.
