WISH-TV 8 Eric Halvorson, Colts Tom Zupancic and WISH-TV 8 Jeff White on Monument Circle in Indy.

Join us with WISH-TV 8, and the Indianapolis Colts as we raise money to help those whose lives have been impacted by the devastating storms which recently ripped through the southeastern United States. WISH-TV 8 personalities, Colts Cheerleaders, Colts mascot “Blue” and Salvation Army volunteers were at two locations on Thursday, May 5 to kick-off the donation drive. We had a fantastic day on Monument Circle taking drive-thru donations from motorists who seemed more than willing to give whatever change they could find in their vehicles, as well as a few who had written checks with the intention of coming down to donate. Police, taxi-drivers and even a couple of bicyclists stopped to help their neighbors in need. By the end of the day, the total raised was $15,445.

“Hoosiers Sending Help South” will continue throughout the weekend, with kettles and promotions at the Indy Mini-Marathon, as well as online and text donations.

Immediately following severe storms and record-breaking tornado activity spanning 7 states, The Salvation Army in each of those states responded with their Emergency Disaster Service teams. Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) personnel continue to meet material, emotional, and spiritual needs across the southern United States.  Currently, EDS crews are at work in Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Georgia, Virginia, Tennessee, and Kentucky.

Your donation will bring food, water, shelter, and other essential support to the victims. Remember, 100% of your donation goes to serving those in need. To date, The Salvation Army has served over 86,000 meals and 260,000 sandwiches, snacks and drinks to those affected by the storms.

The best way to help tornado survivors and rescue workers is to make a financial contribution. Monetary donations allow disaster responders to immediately meet the specific needs of disaster survivors. No in-kind donations (clothing and other items) are being accepted at this time. Monetary donations can be made online through The Salvation Army Indiana Division website here, at www.wishtv.com or by texting GIVE to 80888 which adds a $10 donation to your  cellphone bill.
