Indianapolis– Because of a dramatic increase in request for assistance, supplies at the local Salvation Army Food Panties are running low. As part of Mayor Ballard’s “Pack the Pantry” initiative, The Salvation Army is asking Hoosiers to donate food to their Indianapolis food pantries. Donations can be made at The Salvation Army’s Eagle Creek location at 4400 N. High School Rd. and its Fountain Square location at 1337 Shelby St.

The Salvation Army’s Women’s Shelter is also feeling the pinch as increasing food costs have depleted the shelter’s food budget. The shelter’s 150 beds are consistently filled with women and their children who are fleeing domestic abuse or facing homelessness. Donations can be made to the Women’s Shelter by calling 317-637-5551.

Mayor Greg Ballard will be kicking off “Pack the Pantry” with an 11:00 AM press conference at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School. Salvation Army Divisional Commander, Major Dick Amick, will be taking part in the press conference.
