In planning the 2011 Victory Dinner, one of the questions I was asked repeatedly was “How much is this costing you?” Every time I answered in the weeks preceding Thursday night’s event, I would have this little burst of delight pass through me before I answered, “Nothing.”
The Salvation Army’s Second Annual Victory Dinner with more than 170 attendees was completely paid for by the support of corporate sponsors and individual supporters. More than 25 area businesses were represented Thursday, and I am keeping my fingers crossed for even more corporate partners next year.
This celebration was designed to give The Salvation Army Indiana Division an opportunity to thank others for their dedication and commitment to helping our community. Because of the support of volunteers and donors in 2010, The Salvation Army made it possible for:
- Over 1,400 to participate in Army Substance Abuse Programs
- More than 79,000 safe nights were provided through our shelter and lodging programs
- 202,543 meals were served at our various locations around the city
- More than 4,100 children received coats through the Coats for Kids program
- Over 800 families benefited from our Angel Tree and Toy Shop programs
- Over 10,000 toys were collected for Toy Shop
- More than 800 volunteers assisted with Salvation Army programs
- 663 children attended Salvation Army summer camps
Christmas 2010 also marked the highest grossing Tree of Lights season ever–raising nearly $3.1 million.
The 2011 Victory Dinner was about more than just celebrating the victories of 2010 and the people and businesses that made those victories possible. It was an opportunity for people not so familiar with The Salvation Army to learn about what the army does 365 years and how they can be a part of it. I have no doubt in my mind that everyone learned a lot.
As I close my books on The Second Annual Victory Dinner, I just want to say thank you one more time for everyone’s support throughout this process. Thursday evening could not have been pulled off as well as it was without your support.
