At the 5 year anniversary of Katrina, the nation is reflecting this week on tragedy that befell the Gulf Coast so many years ago and how the area has pressed on since. As an integral part of the community, The Salvation Army was there before the storm, and we were there after working to provide support and help rebuild.
The Salvation Army’s Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi Division posted an album on their Facebook page that looks back at their efforts to help those in need during the immediate aftermath. From serving food to providing medical support, The Salvation Army was a shining light during a very dark time.

The Salvation Army Responds to Minnesota Tornadoes

From Roseville, MN Salvation Army Northern Division – The Salvation Army continues to provide food and emotional support to communities across Minnesota after numerous tornadoes touched down in the northern and southern portions of the state on June 17.
In the north, more than a dozen Salvation Army volunteers from Fargo and Fergus Falls arrived in Wadena last night with two mobile feeding units packed with food and beverages. They have since been providing round-the-clock service to survivors and relief workers in Wadena and surrounding communities. Local businesses have been giving The Salvation Army extra food and water to distribute. Read more

We’ve got some great events planned to help get Indy involved in “doing the most good”. We’ll be out and about this week and we hope you’ll join us:
Monday, May 10 – Dine to Donate at BD’s Mongolian Grill (3838 E. 82nd Street, Castleton) $15 for all-you-can-eat stir-fry, soup and salad. Click here for more info.
Tuesday, May 11 – WWI Salvation Army Doughnut Girls exhibit dedication, Indiana War Memorial (431 N. Meridian Street, Indianapolis)
Thursday, May 13 – Dine to Donate at Max & Erma’s (5899 E. 86th Street, Castleton) 4-10pm. 20% of dine-in and carry out proceeds will benefit The Salvation Army. Don’t forget to take the flyer with you (we only get credit for your meal if you present the flyer).
Friday, May 14 – Eat Outside the Box (Veteran’s Memorial Plaza, 550 N. Meridian Street, Indianapolis) 10am-2pm. Just $5 for a hot dog or hamburger, chips and a drink! [Thanks to our partners for donating lunch: All-American Picnic Company for the 'dogs and burgers, GFS for the chips, Noodles and Company for the water and Ricker's for the soft drinks] Come enjoy lunch and throw a game of cornhole for a great cause – helping Indy’s homeless and abused moms and kids.

National Day of Prayer

On Thursday May 6, nearly 200 people made their way to the Indiana State House to take part in the annual National Day of Prayer ceremony at the Indiana State House. The north atrium of the State House was nearly full of visitors as community leaders offered up prayers for our nation.
Major Richard Amick, Divisional Commander for the Indiana Salvation Army, was one of those leaders asked to pray. Major Amick offered prayers on behalf of our caregivers and disaster response workers. Many other civic leaders also lead prayers, including Indiana Republican Leader, Brian Bosma. Read more
