In just over two weeks The Salvation Army will kick off its annual Red Kettle Christmas Campaign and those iconic kettles will once more appear at some of your favorite shopping locations. Of course, it takes more than a simple kettle to raise the funds needed to operate Salvation Army programs and provide services for the next year. The volunteer standing next to that kettle, ringing a brass bell and greeting shoppers, is the most important member of our team during the holiday season.

In a two-hour bell ringing shift that volunteer can raise enough money to feed a struggling family of four for three days through our feeding programs. It’s enough to shelter, feed, and protect a victim of domestic violence at the Ruth Lilly Women and Children’s Center for two days. For every shift that a volunteer – or team of volunteers – signs up for, it means more Hoosiers we can serve in 2017.

With a group account, you can even claim a kettle during a block of time and schedule members of your church, team, or club to ring there. For those competitive spirits out there, seeing which bell ringing teams can raise the most for The Salvation Army is always a fun way to “do the most good.”
