Bob Gregory, WTHR staff and Salvation Army volunteers and staff spent the evening out in the cold rain so that kids could be warm this winter. It was the annual Colts Coat Collection for Coats for Kids on Sunday and there was no raining on our parade as fans converged on Lucas Oil Stadium in masses just before kick-off time. Bob and other WTHR staff used their enthusiasm for this 25th anniversary of the campaign and its mission to solicit cash donations from even a few Steelers fans. Mike Washington, President of Tuchman Cleaners came out to support the group effort. In spite of the miserable weather, we collected over 700 coats that were generously transported by Two Men And A Truck. That’s a number that is down from previous years at this time, and with a greater need for coats expected we’ve got a long way to go.
We’ll have an update on cash donations as those figures come in. Please continue to drop off new or gently used coats at any Tuchman Cleaners, bring them to Apple Fest, October 6 on Monument Circle or purchase a coat in our online shop for us to share with a child.
