Red Kettle

Thanks to the overwhelming response from central Indiana donors, The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle donations are closer to last year’s pace.  Overall donations, however, are still 40% short of this year’s Tree of Lights goal.  To date, The Salvation Army has collected only $1.76 million of its $2.93 million goal.  Last year, the Army fell short of its annual goal by nearly $300,000 causing the organization to dip into its strategic cash reserve in order to continue services.  Although no programs and services were cut, the cash reserve was depleted leaving no fall-back for The Salvation Army in 2011.  “We anticipate demand for assistance to continue to rise in 2011,” said Jeff Stanger, Development Director for The Salvation Army.  “So, it’s critical for us to reach our goal to avoid cut-backs in programs and services for those in need here in central Indiana.”

The famous Red Kettle will continue to make its appearance at 140 central Indiana locations through Christmas Eve.  Several locations will continue to collect donations through New Year’s Eve.  You can make your donation at any Red Kettle or by mailing a check to The Salvation Army, 3100 North Meridian Street, Indianapolis IN, 46208.  You can also make a donation online at SalvationArmyIndiana.org.  This year, donors can also use their cell phones to text a donation.  Text RING to 85944 to make a $5 gift, or text GIVE to 85944 to make a $10 gift.  All donations made by December 31 are tax deductible on your 2010 tax return.
