Shelter From the Cold
Frigid temperatures across the Midwest have many seeking warmth. The Salvation Army would like to remind the community that that it has programs available to help those in need. The Salvation Army also works with other shelters in central Indiana as part of a winter contingency plan, ensuring there is warm bed space for those who need it.

Ruth Lilly Women and Children’s Center:
The Salvation Army provides a safe place for homeless and abused women and children in perhaps their greatest time of need. Domestic abuse and homeless shelters feature professional counseling, medical assistance, child care and assistance, job training and continuing education programs. The Salvation Army provides a host of social service programs available to the homeless population, including psychological and spiritual counseling, job placement, medical assistance and basic-needs programs. This can include access to telephones, mail delivery, laundry, showers and personal storage areas.
The Salvation Army has low-income apartment residences for those transitioning from homelessness to independence.

Programs for Men:
The Salvation Army provides residential rehabilitation services for men who are battling homelessness, poverty, unemployment and chemical and substance dependency. The Adult Rehabilitation Center operates and manages all local Salvation Army thrift and family stores. Proceeds from the sale of items at Salvation Army thrift and family stores benefit the programs and services of the local Adult Rehabilitation Center.

Corps Community Centers:
The Salvation Army operates corps throughout the state — local centers that provide their communities programs focusing on recreation, learning, youth development and social service programs. Centers also are a place of worship, where services are held throughout the week and on Sunday mornings. Many centers provide youth programs, including before- and after-school programs, day care and sports and recreational services.
