The Salvation Army’s Fountain Square Corps & Community Center will host its first Back to School Community Fun Day this Saturday at its 1337 Shelby Street location in Indy’s Fountain Square community.  The event runs from Noon until 3 PM and is open to the public.  The first 250 students who live inside the boundaries of Washington Street, Raymond Street, Keystone Avenue and Madison Avenue will receive a backpack filled with school supplies.  The students must be accompanied by an adult and proof of address is required.  An additional 300 IPS students have also been preselected to receive backpacks.  These students were referred by IPS community liaisons and social workers.

In addition to the backpacks, the Back to School Community Fun Day will also feature free food, games, activities, resources from community partners and more.  The event is just another way The Salvation Army is reaching out to the local community and serving those in need.  “Although it’s true that we are an international organization, The Salvation Army is really a community partner serving people through local centers such as this location in Fountain Square,” says Major John Turner, Commander of The Salvation Army’s Indiana Division.

The Back to School Community Fun Day is the first of several events over the next two weeks that will be helping local kids prepare for the new school year.
