Victory Dinner Awards & Celebration

Last night’s Third Annual Victory Dinner was a red carpet worthy event – an evening to celebrate the people and businesses that make the many victories possible through the programs and services of The Salvation Army. The dinner and program, held at the Sheraton Hotel downtown Indy, was  a chance for newcomers to learn about The Salvation Army – who we are and what we do – by meeting the employees, businesses, and volunteers who make things happen.

It was also a time for honoring those who have gone above and beyond by donating their time, talent and treasures to support the Army’s mission of meeting human needs without discrimination. The Salvation Army’s Advisory Board Chairman, Lonnie Perkins emceed the event as presenters honored individuals and groups – each named “Champion of the Year”  in various categories. Perkins shared these words from the late Dr. Martin Luther King, “Everyone can be great because anyone can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t even have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace….a soul generated by love.” Perkins went on to say, “Tonight we sit in a room filled with hearts full of grace and souls generated by love.”

Those special people recognized for their service were awarded the following:

Donor Champion of the Year: Betty Jarboe

Service Club Champion of the Year: Sigma Phi Gamma

Business Champion of the Year: Valpak/Reach USA

Youth Organization of the Year: Hoosier Youth Academy

Volunteer Champion of the Year: Bert Thurnall

Advisory Board Champion of the Year: Don Steel

In addition, The Salvation Army recognized Women’s Auxiliary President Marcia Patton, Advisory Board Member Dr. Ted Gabrielsen, and finally World Record Bell Ringers Caleb Stokes and Leilan McNally.

Updates on relief and recovery in Southern Indiana were shared with guests by The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services Coordinator Jerry Larsen and drama team Point of View inspired the audience with a skit – Beyond the Red Kettle.
