The Coats Are In
Although the coats for Bob Gregory’s 26th annual Coats for Kids campaign have been collected, the preparation for this year’s distribution has only just started.
Coats arrived at the Indiana State Fairgrounds by the truckful early this morning. Transporting the coats to their final location was a joint effort made by Two Men and a Truck (who transported coats from collection, to Tuchman’s for cleaning then to The Salvation Army) and Sam Storage Containers (who dropped storage trailers off at The Salvation Army and transported the coats to the fairgrounds).
Volunteers were ready to unload and start the process of sorting the thousands of coats by gender and size. The first group of volunteers were 8th graders from Christ the King Catholic School. Other groups including Ben Davis and Pike high schools, the Girl Scouts and Funemployed will also help with the preparations throughout the week.
Volunteers will get a meal and snacks for their hard work in transforming the empty space at the fairgrounds into a fully organized coat distribution center.
If your children or if someone you know has children in need of winter jackets, please join The Salvation Army Indiana, WTHR and Tuchman Cleaners at the Indiana State Fairgrounds Agriculture Horticulture building from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
